There is a leadership lesson about learning to delegate. It’s a good one. About how you need to “let go of the vine” and give other people a chance to grow. People only need to be about 80% as proficient as you and you need to let it go.

I agree with that. Or something like it. I’ve benefited a lot from learning to delegate more at work.

But I’ve learned a different lesson this week. In my caution to not overstep, I let a few people do a lot of work and wasted a lot of conversations and energy on something that ultimately took me fifteen minutes to do and was what we needed. So . . . hold onto the vine?

Or rather, trust in my own vision and skill more and understand when it’s better to confidently (not aggressively) step in when people are floundering.
