Okay, no haiku tonight. I know you love them — I love them as an easy writing exercise on days when I am busy or exhausted or otherwise don’t have the capacity for anything else.
And I’ve had a busy couple of days! Driving to Madison on Friday night, to Des Moines on Saturday, and then yesterday I drove from to southeast Kansas and back again, leaving at six in the morning and returning after ten last night. I had thought I’d probably stop somewhere and take the last couple of hours back today instead, but once I was on the road it was too tempting to push through and just get home (or my friends’ home with my comfy guest room and no pressure to get up early again and get driving before the workday).
I had good reason for all these miles, of course: I was visiting the expectant mom who is planning to place her baby with me in a couple of months. This isn’t the right platform to share any details or private information about her, but I can say it was lovely to meet her in person after connecting via email for months and it was such a positive, connective conversation. We talked for four hours at a restaurant, getting to know each other, talking about the birth plan, and imagining baby’s future.
Baby’s due on June 3rd. 82 days. Less than twelve weeks now. There are a lot of unknowns, of course, and nothing is set in stone until it is . . . but it’s surreal to think about how close it is . . . that this looks like it’s happening.
I’m in Des Moines the rest of the week before heading back home on Saturday where I’ll fill the next couple of months with some more nesting activities. There’s a nursery to be painted, storage closets to be organized, work coverage plans to be written . . .
Time feels like it’s moving so, so slowly, but then again it keeps disappearing before my eyes.
With Love,
Natalie
