Another quarter over, another quarterly book update and uffda do I not want to share this one. I only clocked 20 books in Q2 of this year, hitting 45 books overall for 2020 out of my 100 book goal. Five behind!
The reasons (*cough* excuses):
- June I basically just read fanfiction. That’s what happened. A boatload of feel-good, escape from the world, let’s watch these assholes fall in love over and over again fanfiction.
- I ran a lot less in the past month, slowing the rate I got through audiobooks.
It’s okay team, I can catch up! Remember that 168 book mark last year? 100 is nothing. I got this. I got this. Uffda.
My stats:
- 8 fiction (all physical books)
- 12 nonfiction (all audiobook)
That said, I did read some really amazing books the past few months. I’m having trouble picking out a top five even, but here we go:
Untamed by Glennon Doyle. I can’t believe it was only April when I first discovered Glennon for myself. This book made my year and I’m so thankful to have had her words through quarantine. I’ve wrote about it a few times before. Why haven’t you read this yet?
Bonds of Brass by Emily Skrutskie. This sci-fi adventure epic (and make it queer!) was everything I needed. I have lots of feelings about it that I’ve been holding in until my friends catch up (looking at the people I literally bought a copy here…)
The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander. I finished this yesterday (just under the wire) and wrote about it yesterday as well.
Late to the Party by Kelly Quindlen. I honestly thought this contemporary YA would feel like the many others I read, enjoyable but ultimately forgettable. But this one was so good. A queer coming of age story about friendship and self-acceptance.
Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales. Someone wrote a contemporary queer retelling of Grease. Need I say more?
Happy Reading (and here’s to a better Q3!)
With Love,
Natalie
