Book report time! Before I get to far into Q2 (my brain only thinks in terms of fiscal quarters now, a side affect of the professional world), I want to give my Q1 book update. I set a goal for 100 books this year and am just ahead of goal at 29 books.

The breakdown:

  • 17 fiction books, all physical copies, all Rick Riordan books.
  • 12 nonfiction books, all audiobooks, varied

Usually I’d give my favorites, but let me just do the obvious blanket call out for Rick Riordan. I reread the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus series then continued to read for the first time The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase and the Asgardians. I’m currently in the middle of the final existing series The Trials of Apollo. Clearly I love Percy Jackson books and Percy Jackson himself and the entire world. Special callout to the Magnus Chase series which blew me away and has amazing representation across the board including a trans and gender fluid love interest. Alex Fierro is gold.

As for nonfiction, I read a healthy amount of endurance books focused on long distance hiking of the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail. They are close cousins to the ultramarathon books I love and great to listen to while running. At the top of the year I also got through Obama’s 30 hour book A Promised Land.

One of my favorites though was Laziness Does Not Exist by Devon Price, Ph.D. Check out the link for Goodread’s summary, but essentially it’s a validating book that productivity does not equal self-worth.

I have a stack of books up next so hopefully I can stay on track this quarter. Fanfiction derailed me the last week or so (how else am I supposed to process all my Marvel feelings?), but I’m looking forward to the books ahead of me! This is, after all, the quarter we get One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston.

With Love,

Natalie
